Cordial Meeting of the Ministry of ICT with ICT Activists of Qom Province
In a cordial meeting with the Minister of Information and Communications Technology, organized by the Science and Technology Park and the General Directorate of Information Technology of Qom Province, IT activists raised their concerns and challenges.
AI Concerns and GPU Infrastructure
In this meeting, the Center for Foundation Models of Artificial Intelligence Innovation, as one of the active and important research centers in the province, expressed the province’s concerns in this field. Dr. Jalali, the director of the center, while emphasizing the importance of GPUs in the advancement of AI projects and the impossibility of serious work in this area without the necessary support and infrastructure, requested the Ministry’s support for active AI teams to procure and use GPUs, as well as the equitable distribution of support for such infrastructures nationwide.
Elaborating on this issue, he added: “Simply gathering and creating motivation is not enough; without access to powerful Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), serious work is impossible.”
Private Sector Participation in Infrastructure
In this meeting, the Minister of Information and Communications Technology also spoke about the country’s plans in the field of AI: “The Ministry’s approach is the development of distributed infrastructures and utilizing the capacities of the private sector.”
He added: “If all AI infrastructures are placed under government control, this sector will face serious harm; therefore, our policy is the active participation of the private sector in the development of processing centers and AI infrastructures.”
Moving Towards Regulation
Emphasizing that the development of technology and the digital economy is impossible without the role of the private sector, he announced the Ministry’s move towards regulation rather than direct operation, stating that supporting technological ecosystems, domestic platforms, and new service operators is on the Ministry’s agenda.
Supporting Qom’s Technological Capacities
In conclusion, emphasizing support for the technological capacities of Qom province, the Minister of Communications said: “The Ministry of Communications is ready to pursue the issues and obstacles of activists in this field in collaboration with various agencies.”
He expressed hope that with the synergy between the government, private sector, universities, and specialized institutions, the vast capacities of Qom province in the fields of IT, digital economy, and AI will flourish more than ever.
