The Position of Qom University Laboratory
The head of the National Artificial Intelligence Association branch in Qom province, stating that Qom University concluded over 6 billion Tomans in AI contracts with the industry last year, said: “Currently, three reference laboratories in the entire country have been selected for this specific branch of AI, which is large language models, and one of these three laboratories is Qom University. These three laboratories include Shahid Beheshti University, Amirkabir University, and Qom University.”
Scientific Association and Provincial Working Group
Dr. Amir Jalali Bidgoli, in an interview with the news department of Qom University’s Public Relations, stated: “The Artificial Intelligence Scientific Association is a national scientific association established by a group of active and expert individuals in the field of AI. Since the topic of AI is currently a hot and prominent issue and all organizations, departments, and companies want to be active in this area, going beyond other associations in the country, the AI Association has defined a representative in each province. Therefore, in every province, organizations and institutions that need consultation in this field can refer to the AI Association representative in their own province.”
He added: “In Qom province, a working group in this field has also been formed at the governor’s office, where I am present as the secretary of the working group and the representative of the AI Association. The overall goal of this initiative is to promote the issue of AI, its applications, culture, various concepts, and even human resource training in this field, from the student level to various institutions.”
Missions of the AI Association
The head of the National AI Association branch in Qom province clarified: “The AI Association in the country has defined several missions for itself. The first mission of this association is to hold conferences and educational gatherings in the field of AI, which, while providing managers with the opportunity to become more familiar with AI, also paves the way for interested individuals to enter this field consciously.”
The faculty member of the Computer Engineering Department at Qom University, stating that every technology is a double-edged sword, emphasized: “These conferences, working groups, and seminars that are organized allow those who are active in this field and intend to use AI in their businesses to both become familiar with its capabilities and gain awareness of the limitations and considerations that must be taken into account in this area.”
Dr. Jalali Bidgoli noted: “Another activity of the association is that, as a scientific body, it provides specialized consultation to all private and governmental organizations and the industry. This working group, which is being formed through the efforts of the National Elites Foundation and under the Economic Deputy of the Governor’s Office, is one of the instances that falls into this category. Also, if possible, for needs that can be addressed with AI, this association connects capable teams to individuals and organizations that have those needs, ultimately leading to a better promotion of AI in the country and the province.”
Authority and Fundamental Projects
The head of the National AI Association branch in Qom province, noting that Qom University is a pioneer in the field of AI in the province, said: “Currently, one of the three reference laboratories in the entire country in one of the AI fields is the Qom University laboratory; nationwide, three reference laboratories have been selected for this specific branch of AI, which is large language models, and one of these three is the Qom University laboratory. Therefore, both at the provincial and national levels in this regard, Qom University has been active and performed well. The three mentioned reference laboratories include Shahid Beheshti University, Amirkabir University, and Qom University.”
The Qom University faculty member stated: “One of the fundamental pillars of the Faculty of Converging Technologies, which will be established at Qom University, is artificial intelligence, and many of the projects concluded between Qom University and the industry are also in the field of AI. In fact, the most important research trend currently underway in engineering and technical disciplines is related to AI discussions. Therefore, it can be said that Qom University is highly active in this area.”
Cooperation with Industry and Institutions
He continued: “Last year, Qom University concluded over 6 billion Tomans in AI contracts with the industry and is collaborating with various institutions in this field, and these institutions have accepted Qom University as a specialized organization in the field of AI. We have entered into cooperation with entities such as the Oil Company, the Judiciary, the Inspection Organization, etc. We have also engaged in interaction and negotiation for cooperation with two research institutes in Tehran, the Noor Center of Qom Province, and others, the subject of all these activities being artificial intelligence. There are also three active laboratories in the field of AI solely within the Computer Engineering department at Qom University; in addition to this, other disciplines such as Mechanics, Civil Engineering, etc. at Qom University are also active in this field.”
